Bowen Swersey has been an artist since he first played with Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs.  Whether the medium is wood, paint, musical notes, poetry, or stone, the composition, utility, and design are forefront in the work.  For your landscape, practicality, ease of use, and comfort are as important as the aesthetic result.  In stonework, as well as poetry, choice of building materials is key.  Each stone is hand selected and fitted to show its very best face.  Each plant selected works in the location it is given based on the growing conditions and space available to it.  

     Every project is personally overseen and installed by Bowen with the assistance of his cheerful amazon crew.  No other local landscaper can give you the reassurance that he will be personally overseeing every aspect of your installation.

     Finances are important in landscaping.  Bowen will give a free estimate for any installation which will be realistic and conservative.  We have never gone more than ten percent over an estimate in ten years!  In fact, most of the time the estimate is higher than the final cost.  Bowen takes pride in his word as a businessman and will also work on a fixed-price basis.

     Another very unique aspect of Mr. Bowen Services is that all construction is done by hand and with hand tools.  We very seldom use hydraulic machines, though we do have a tripod and electric cable winch for heavier work, such as granite block seawalls.  The Pine Ledge seawall was rebuilt using 300 lb to 800 lb blocks hoisted by the tripod.  Many of our jobs are done in places where backhoes and other heavy machinery cannot gain access.  One of the real pleasures of our work is to lever large stones into place and have customers wonder at how we managed to do it.  Our logo represents the power of the simple lever, and every aspect of our work reveals the lever's potency and our proficiency with it.

    Our patios, walkways and stone walls are featured in over 70 homes on the coast of Maine, as well as several businesses and hotels.  We have been rebuilding 80 year old retaining walls on Rockefeller's Ringing Point residence, and have recently completed three granite block seawalls in SW Harbor, Maine.

    In addition to stonework, Mr. Bowen Services also does gardening, plant installation (particular specialties are rhodedendrons and wild gardens), and much, much more.
